Palotanegyed, or the “Palace District,” is one of the most prestigious areas in Budapest, on the PEST side. Known for its historic bourgeois houses and charming public squares, the district offers a unique experience that feels like stepping back in time. It’s not uncommon to stumble upon film crews capturing the area’s vintage allure. The district is home to the Hungarian National Museum with its inviting garden, the imposing Szabó Ervin Library, and the cozy terraces of Mikszáth Square that beckon for a coffee break.

The Palace District contains important educational and cultural institutions. Between the Múzeum körút and Puskin utca is the Humanities Faculty of Budapest's Eötvös Loránd University,[16] built 1880-3 by Imre Steindl, also the architect of the Parliament building.[17] The central administration and many of the departments of the city's Semmelweis University (of medicine) you find here, as well as the Pázmány Péter Catholic University, as well as the German-language Andrássy University (it is housed in the former Festetics Palace).
