Where’s the University of Gdańsk located?

Its faculties are in three campuses. One of them, the main one, is in the north of Gdańsk and the other two are in two nearby cities: Sopot and Gdynia. They are known as the 'Tricity' ('Trójmiasto' in Polish) due to their proximity to each other.

Gdańsk Oliwa Campus (Baltic Campus)

It’s the main campus and is located in the Oliwa district, in the north of the city, around half hour from the centre of Gdańsk and halfway between Gdańsk and Sopot.

Campus in Gdynia

Another coastal town, but further away from Gdańsk, about 40 minutes away by train. Gdynia has one of the most important ports in Poland. That’s why, this campus specialises mainly in Maritime and Transport Studies. In fact, it’s home to the Faculties of Oceanography and Geography, as well as the Oceanographic Institute. It’s located in the Kamienna Góra district of the city.

Oliwa (Gdańsk)

It’s where the main campus of the University is located, making it a very popular area among students. It’s famous for its park, Oliwa Park, which takes up a large part of the district. Within the park you’ll find the Botanical Garden and many small walking trails. In addition to its green areas, Oliwa is known for its cafés and restaurants where you can discover the local cuisine.

Przymorze (Gdańsk)

This neighbourhood is right next to Oliwa and stretches all the way to the coast with Ronald Reagan Park. In the area you’ll find shopping centres, like the Alfa Centrum, with many activities for young people such as a climbing wall and cinemas. In Przymorze there are several supermarkets and restaurants, with all the basic amenities nearby.

Dolny Sopot (Sopot)

Dolny Sopot is the most central area of Sopot, with cafes, restaurants and entertainment venues. It also has a pier, promenade and several beaches to enjoy. From here you can reach the Sopot campus of the UG in about 15 minutes walk, although it depends on where you are.

Śródmieście (Gdynia)

This neighbourhood is the preferred area for students to live in Gdynia. First, because it’s the liveliest zone with restaurants and entertainment areas. Second, because it has the central train station, which connects with Sopot and Gdańsk, and other nearby cities. Finally, from here you can get to UG campus in Gdynia in a short time, either on foot, by bus or by bicycle.

Student residences near UG

The institution has its own residences, but offers a limited number of places for international students. If you meet the requirements, after you’ve been accepted at the University, you’ll receive an email with instructions on how to apply for these residences.

Regarding the private residences, the offer is very limited in the cities where the University has its campuses. The ones that are available are usually located in Gdańsk, so they are especially convenient for those who are going to study there.

  • The Foreign Language Centre offers Polish language courses to international students, including those on the Erasmus Programme. Make the most of them! Knowing more about the language will allow you to learn more about the local culture. The school bases its classes not only on the language, but also on the culture, history and tradition of the country. They often organise events outside the classroom to get to know the attractions of the three cities that make up the Trójmiasto: Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia.
  • If you’re interested in activities outside your studies, at UG you have the possibility to join artistic and sports groups.
