Where is Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences located?

The institution has three campuses in the city of Jyväskylä and the Bioeconomy Institute in Tarvaala, Saarijärvi. The three campuses are:

Main Campus

The main campus of the University is the largest and most important. It’s located in the area of Rajakatu, to the north of central Jyväskylä. It has administrative offices and various services for students.

Classes from the following schools are taught on this campus:

The following schools and institutes are located here:

  • School of Health and Social Studies
  • Professional Teacher Training School
  • Informatics Institute

Finnish Music Campus

This campus is focused on musical education in the field of Culture. It’s located in the Pitkäkatu area, west of the city centre. It’s a collaborative campus formed by JAMK, the University of Jyväskylä and the Educational Consortium Gradia de Jyväskylä.

Best neighbourhoods to live in near the JAMK

Here are some of the most chosen neighbourhoods by young people every year:

Keskusta (centre of Jyväskylä)

From the centre of the city you’ll be able to get to the three campuses of the institution in a short time, both on foot and by bicycle. It’s the liveliest neighbourhood in Jyväskylä, with the largest number of restaurants, shops and entertainment venues.

Lutakko

This district is convenient to live in if you’re going to study in the Lutakko Campus, since it’s right there. It’s quieter than the centre, but it has good access to leisure sites, the city's main train station and areas to enjoy the outdoors, such as parks and even a beach.

Rajakatu and Taulumäki

These two areas are a little further from the city centre, but can be reached in approximately 15-20 minutes on foot. The students who look for accommodation here are usually those who are going to study in the JAMK Main Campus, which can be accessed from Rajakatu Street. The area is also connected by bus to the rest of the city.

Student residences near the JAMK

In Finland, it’s not common for institutions to have university residences, but they offer their students the possibility of renting accommodation through foundations. In the case of JAMK, the foundation is the Central Finnish Student Residence Foundation, better known as KOAS. The accommodation in their buildings is usually basic, with everything you need to move in, and the prices they offer are affordable. However, keep in mind that the number of places is usually not enough for the number of students they receive every year, so many young people decide to rent private accommodation on their own. Another fact to keep in mind is that, normally, the contracts they offer are 5 or 10 months. That is, they are usually not flexible.
