Where’s the University of Montpellier located?

Its buildings are throughout the city. It has eight faculties and numerous schools and buildings:

Triolet Campus

It’s located in the north of Montpellier, in the Sant-Eloi district, half an hour by tram from the historic centre.

On this campus you will find the following buildings:

• Faculty of Science: you will find classes from different departments such as Biology-Life Mechanisms, Biology-Ecology, Chemistry, Institute of Business Administration (IAE) and the Observatory for Environmental Research of Montpellier (OREME).
• Polytech Montpellier: it’s a public Engineering School which is part of the University of Montpellier.
• National School of Chemistry of Montpellier (ENSCM)

Richter Campus

This campus is located to the east of the historic centre, in Port Marianne district, around 20 minutes away. Here you will find different faculties:

• Faculty of Economics
• Montpellier Management: it offers courses in the field of Management Sciences (finance, accounting, marketing, strategy, human resources) and Administration (economics, law).
• Institute of Preparation for General Administration (IPAG)

Arnaud de Villeneuve Campus

It’s located in the north-west of the city, in the Bon Secours district, 20 minutes by public transport from the city centre. In this area you will find:

• Faculty of Medicine: in this faculty you will find the departments of Medicine, Maieutics, Orthopaedics and Orthophony.
• IUT Montpellier
• Faculty of Sciences and Techniques of Physical and Sport Activities

Faculty of Dentistry

This one is the most distant faculty. It’s located in the district of Malbosc, to the northwest of Montpellier city centre, about 35 minutes from Montpellier. It prepares future dental surgeons, teachers and hospital doctors.

Buildings in the centre of Montpellier

In the centre of the city there are several UM buildings:

• Faculty of Pharmacy and Biomedicine: within this faculty you can find Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Health Engineering, among many others.
• Faculty of Education
• Faculty of Law and Political Science
• Faculty of Medicine: it has two seats in Montpellier, this one and the one on the campus Arnaud Villeneuve.

Best neighbourhoods to live in near UM

Depending on your studies, it’s advisable to look for accommodation in one area or another in order to be closer to your faculty. In this section we recommend you the most popular neighbourhoods near the University of Montpellier.

Port Marianne

Campus Richter is located in this neighbourhood, so if you are going to study there, this is your best option. It’s a modern and dynamic neighbourhood with lots of opportunities. It has a variety of green areas like the Charpak park which is next to the Bassin Jacques Coeur, a small lake where you can enjoy the outdoors. If you're looking for peace and quiet, this is your neighbourhood.

Beaux Arts

It’s the students' favourite neighbourhood. It's in the city centre, so you can easily get to all the faculties in this area. This neighbourhood has a very youthful atmosphere, as it’s full of bars, restaurants and cafes where you can enjoy with your new friends.

Les Arceaux

Les Arceaux is very close to the campus of Triolet and next to the centre of Montpellier, making it a perfect area for students. It's a residential neighbourhood with a good atmosphere, and has weekly markets where you can try typical local products. There are also many traditional bistros.

Student residences near UM

The public student residences are run by the CROUS organisation, which manages various services for students at French universities. There’re many options throughout the city, some of them right next to the campuses.

As a university city, there are also many private residence options. They usually offer more amenities and additional services compared to the public ones, even if for a higher price.

Erasmus at the University of Montpellier

• UM has more than 140 associations in which you can get involved. It can be very useful for meeting new people and exploring French culture!
• The University of Montpellier Health Centre (Centre de Soins Universitaire de Montpellier - CSU) is an inter-institutional service run by the University of Montpellier which allows all students access to primary care services.
