The organisation is different from the rest of the usual universities. For this reason, depending on your field of study you have to go to one or another university.
It’s important to know that it’s divided into three different universities under the same direction. Each of them teaches specific branches of study.
This institution is based in the very centre of the city of Toulouse. It’s made up of different faculties and schools:
This university is located about 15 minutes by metro from the city centre. It has more than 30,000 enrolled students, of which 4,000 are international students of 150 different nationalities. It offers degrees in a wide variety of disciplines: Art, Literature, Languages, Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences, Technology, and Management.
The university is located half an hour away by public transport from the centre of Toulouse and 20 minutes by bicycle. It has around 32,000 students. It’s the campus that’s the furthest away from the city.
Its courses are divided into four distinct entities, which are:
Depending on which university you’re attending, you should choose one place or another. There are options both in the city centre and further away, and here are some of the most popular ones:
This neighbourhood is downtown. It’s just a 10-minute walk from the University of Toulouse I Capitole. It’s also very well connected to the rest of the universities through public transport. The area is full of bars and shops, so the atmosphere’s always very lively.
These two districts are not in the centre, but it takes only a few minutes to walk there. There’s a large availability of rooms for students, although being in the centre, the prices may be a little higher. It takes 15 minutes on foot to the Capitole I campus, and around 40 minutes by public transport to Paul Sabatier and Jean Jaurès.
It’s located to the south of the city, very close to the Paul Sabatier campus. It’s a residential neighbourhood bordering the Garonne River and the Belvérè Pech-David park. The area is full of shops, bars, and restaurants that are very popular with students. It takes approximately 25 minutes by public transport to the city centre.
It’s located next to the Jean Jaurès University. It’s a residential and quiet area. It has two small parks and is very well connected to the rest of the city. For example, it takes around 25 minutes by bus to get to the centre of Toulouse.
The University of Toulouse makes public university residences available to students. The institution partners with the Crous de Toulouse, a network of public residences. They have a more affordable price compared to the private sector. A single room costs around €250 per month and a small studio between €310 and €375.
There are also many private residences on offer, for a higher price, but with more amenities and services. They’re spread throughout the city. There are a variety of options both in the historic centre, near the Capitole campus, or further south, near the Jean Jaurès University.
The most popular neighbourhoods among students are: Capitole de Toulouse, in the city centre; Les Chalets and Matabiau, also in the city centre and 15 minutes walk from the campus of Capitole; Rangueil, to the south; and Faourette, southeast of Toulouse.
Public university residences cost between €250 and €400 per month, depending on whether you choose a single room or a studio apartment. A studio in a private residence goes from €630 and up.
The University of Toulouse is made up of three independent institutions: University of Toulouse I Capitole, University of Toulouse-Jean Jaurès and Paul Sabatier University - Toulouse III.
Toulouse is a very popular choice among students from all over the world. The student atmosphere is very lively throughout the year. Many activities are organised for students, so you won’t get bored!
