The Catholic University of Córdoba (UCC - Universidad Católica de Córdoba) is one of the best known and most prestigious universities in Argentina, and was the first private university in the country, founded in 1956. Every year it welcomes thousands of students from different provinces of the country and even from abroad, drawn by the quality of its courses in areas such as Law, Medicine, Engineering and Social Sciences. In this article, we'll tell you everything you need to know about the institution, so that you can easily find student accommodation near the Catholic University of Córdoba and make the most of your university experience in the city.

Flats and rooms for students near the UCC

The first thing you need to do is identify which campus you’ll be attending, so that you can then choose accommodation in a convenient location. In this section, we’ll provide you with all the necessary details.

Where’s the Catholic University of Córdoba located?

Here are the different locations and what you can study at each one of them:

Main university campus

This is the university's largest campus. It’s located in the Santa Isabel neighbourhood, about 40-50 minutes by bus from the centre of Córdoba.

Most of its faculties teach classes here, including:

  • Economics and Management Sciences
  • Political Science and International Relations
  • Engineering
  • Agricultural Sciences
  • Health Sciences
  • Law and Social Sciences
  • Architecture and Design

The campus also has a large central library, research laboratories, a botanical garden (Jardín Botánico Gaspar Suárez S.J.), a veterinary clinic, and various sports facilities.

Campus Urbano Pedro Arrupe S.J.

As its name suggests, this campus is located in the city, in the General Paz neighbourhood. It takes about 20 minutes to reach the city centre on foot or by bus.

This campus offers courses from the Faculty of Health Sciences. In fact, it’s very close to the university hospital, called the Clinica Universitaria Reina Fabiola.

Edificio Centro Juan Carlos Scannone S.J.

This building is located in the centre of Córdoba and a short walk from the Nueva Córdoba neighbourhood. It’s home to the Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities.

Best neighbourhoods to live near the UCC

Below, we list the favourite neighbourhoods for students to live nearby and have good connections to the institution's campuses. Keep in mind that the neighbourhoods around the main UCC campus can be unsafe, so they aren’t very popular with students to live in.

Nueva Córdoba

This is the city’s student neighbourhood, and it receives the most students each year. It has a wide range of accommodation options and is the liveliest area for daytime and nighttime entertainment. Furthermore, living here makes it easy to get to all UCC campuses and buildings, both by bus and shuttle.

General Paz

General Paz is a lively neighbourhood with lots of shops and restaurants. It’s an ideal place to live, especially for Health Sciences students who attend the Campus Urbano Pedro Arrupe S.J.. The Edificio Centro is also just a short bus ride away.

Centro

The centre of Córdoba is very lively during the day despite not having much to do at night. It’s an ideal place to live for students and provides easy access to the other two campuses. We recommend the areas near Nueva Córdoba if you decide to live in the centre, since the areas near the Primero River can be unsafe at night.

Student residences near the UCC

Are you considering living in student residences? We should mention that the UCC doesn’t have its own halls of residence for exchange students, so that’s not an option. However, private student residences are mostly located in the central neighbourhoods of Córdoba. You can choose one that’s close to the bus or shuttle stops that take you to the main campus, or one that’s close to your location in the city centre.

Erasmus in the Catholic University of Córdoba

Here are some things to keep in mind to make the most of your exchange:

  • The UCC has a Welcome Week for International Students, where newcomers can integrate directly into the university environment in Córdoba. During this period, face-to-face and virtual workshops, social events, city tours, and cultural activities are organised to help exchange students get to know each other, adapt to Córdoba and begin to feel part of the University.
  • All courses are taught in Spanish, so it’s advisable to have a good level of proficiency in that language if it’s not your mother tongue. In addition, the UCC offers an Advanced Spanish Course for those who wish to take advantage of it, which lasts one semester and has an additional cost.
