For example, the first thing you have to know is that this city is divided mainly into districts, and each one has a very different vibe.

Residence Ljubljana | 18 | €400 |
Studio Ljubljana | 0 | € |
Entire place Ljubljana | 160 | €1244 |
These are the most chosen by students to live every year:
This district is one of those which has more of a student atmosphere, despite being residential. It extends north of Ljubljana, to the other side of the main train station from the city centre.
Bežigrad is home to a variety of faculties of the University of Ljubljana, and that’s why it’s one of the best neighbourhoods for students in the city. For example, here are the faculties and departments of Economics, Social Sciences, Social Work, and Education.
In Bežigrad there are also a variety of restaurants, bars and places with live music. Although it doesn’t have nightclubs, in this district there are many of the city's student residences, which are known for being very lively. Their residents throw parties several days a week!
It’s true that Bežigrad doesn’t offer many cultural sites to visit. However, it’s home to the Stožice stadium, for those interested in football.
This district is connected to the rest of the city through several bus lines, and also has bike lanes on different streets.
As its name indicates, this is the most central neighbourhood of the Slovenian capital. Thanks to that, it’s one of the ones with the most lively vibe. Here, you’ll find the Main Campus and the Kongresni trg Campus of the University of Ljubljana, so it’s ideal for those who want to be close to their classes.
Center has many of the most important tourist and cultural sites in the city. For example, you can visit the Ljubljana Castle (Ljubljanski grad), squares such as Trg republike and Mestni trg, and the famous Dragon Bridge (Zmajski most). In addition, keep in mind that the square where students usually gather to spend the afternoon or evening is Prešernov trg, which also hosts a large number of events throughout the year. On Sundays there’s usually a flea market on the banks of the Ljubljanica River.
The centre of Ljubljana offers a variety of eateries, as well as a large number of bars, pubs, and some nightclubs.
As to outdoor spaces, the banks of the Ljubljanica River offer a relaxing walk. Furthermore, on one side of the district is a part of the Tivoli Park, the largest in the city, while the park of the castle offers not only a green area, but also very beautiful views of the city.
From the Center District it’s easy to get to other parts of the city with buses or by bicycle.
This district is calmer than those mentioned above, located southwest of the centre. However, here’s the Biotechnical Campus of the University of Ljubljana and one of the most famous student residences, which is why it’s often considered another one of the best neighbourhoods for students in Ljubljana.
Another point in favor of the Rožnik district is that in it are the sports facilities and gyms of the University, making it ideal for those who like to stay active.
It’s true that the variety of restaurants and bars is scarcer than in the more central neighbourhoods, but there are still several places with local and international cuisine that are worth trying.
The Rožnik District comprises another part of Tivoli Park, so you also have access to extensive green areas to enjoy the outdoors and have beautiful views of Ljubljana.
To reach other areas of the city, from Rožnik you can take several bus lines (which stations are normally on the main streets) and there are also bike lanes that can be used.
The Šiška district extends northwest of the centre of Ljubljana. It’s an alternative, dynamic, and cultural neighbourhood. In fact, it’s known for its diversity, with both quiet residential areas and more lively ones.
The main street is Celovška cesta, which gathers the largest number of bars, cafes, and restaurants. In addition, among the cultural sites, the Kino Šiška Cultural Centre, the Computer History Museum (Računalniški muzej) and the Railway Museum (Železniški muzej) stand out. It also has a shopping centre and several shops on its streets.
In this district there’s also part of the great Tivoli Park, which not only offers perfect places to relax and enjoy the outdoors, but also has beautiful views of Ljubljana.
Regarding public transport, the buses have stops especially on the main streets, such as Celovška Cesta and Vodnikova Cesta. It also has bike lanes to use the bicycle.
Most students choose to live in districts like Bežigrad, Center, Rožnik, Šiška, and Vič. However, it always depends on the university campus you’re going to. It’s advisable to look for accommodation nearby to avoid spending too much time on transportation.
Adding economic rental costs (such as a room in a shared apartment or a residence), food, transportation, and some leisure, you have to have at least €500-600 per month.
The main means of public transport is the bus, which can be used through the “Urbana card”. Additionally, it’s a very bike-friendly city, so many students choose to join the public bike system that has stations spread throughout the city, called “Bicikelj”.
The districts with the most student vibes are Bezigrad and Center. Rožnik is a little quieter, but it has one of the most famous student residences, so it’s also lively.
It depends on which of their campuses you’re going to go to. For example, the Center District is convenient for the main campus and Kongresni trg Campus, while for the Biotechnical Campus it’s better to live in the Rožnik District. In this article we tell you everything you need to know about accommodation near this Slovenian institution.
