Luxembourg offers a high quality of life, a rich cultural heritage, and a cosmopolitan environment. The University of Luxembourg attracts a diverse student body from around the world, creating an international and multicultural learning environment. Keep in mind that it is a multilingual institution, where courses are taught in English, French, and German. Indeed, the university promotes language learning and encourages students to master multiple languages. Take the opportunity to learn as much as possible during your stay at the university.
As it is a small country, everything is relatively close. However, in this section, we will tell you about the locations of the university's faculties so that you can choose the most convenient neighbourhoods for you to live in.
The university has three main campuses, all located in different parts of Luxembourg.
It is located in the Belval area of the city of Esch-sur-Alzette, south of Luxembourg and on the border with France. It is about a 45-minute public transport ride from the city of Luxembourg. The following faculties and departments offer classes here:
This campus is located in the Kirchberg area, northeast of the centre of Luxembourg. It can be reached in about 20 minutes by public transport from the city. This campus houses part of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance (Department of Economics and Management) and the Faculty of Science, Technology, and Medicine (Department of Engineering).
It is located northeast of the centre of Luxembourg, about a 15-minute bus ride from the old town of the city. The Limpertsberg Campus offers classes for the Department of Physics and Materials Science of the Faculty of Science, Technology, and Medicine.
We recommend that you consider the following neighbourhoods, depending on the campus where you will have classes:
These three neighbourhoods are ideal if you are going to the Kirchberg Campus of the institution. Kirchberg is a modern district that offers a mix of residential and commercial areas. Weimershof is known for its peaceful atmosphere, with parks and green areas. Neudorf-Weimershof has a mix of residential areas and commercial facilities. It has good public transport connections to both Uni-Lu and the centre of Luxembourg.
Living in the Limpertsberg neighbourhood offers the advantage of being within walking distance of the Limpertsberg Campus. It is a residential area with beautiful parks, tree-lined streets, and a mix of traditional and modern architecture. It offers a wide range of services such as shops, cafes, restaurants, and cultural attractions.
These two areas are convenient if you are going to the Belval Campus. Belval has a lively atmosphere with shops, restaurants, and cultural venues. On the other hand, the centre of Esch-sur-Alzette offers a more urban environment, with a greater number of services, cafes, and leisure facilities.
The institution has some university residences where you can apply for a place. However, the demand is usually very high, and Uni-Lu cannot guarantee a place in its residences. For this reason, we suggest that you start your accommodation search as soon as possible so that you can find a place in the residence or find a spare room in a private shared apartment.
Here are some tips to keep in mind during your mobility:
