The first thing you need to identify is where the campus is located, so that you can consider the most convenient areas to live.
Antioquia is one of Colombia’s regions in which the university has campuses in different areas. However, the campuses located in the city of Medellin are the ones that take in the most international students every year. Because of this, in this section we’ll focus on the two most important ones that are in this Colombian city.
The Central Campus of the University of Antioquia, located in the University City of Medellín, is a spacious and modern space full of student life. It extends over more than 250,000 square miles with buildings for each faculty, research laboratories, libraries and auditoriums. The Carlos Gavira Diaz Library stands out as one of the most comprehensive in the country, as well as the MUUA University Museum, which features art and natural science collections.
The campus also has green spaces, sports fields, cafeterias, and cultural spaces. Which makes it an ideal place for studying, socialising and relaxing. Furthermore, its location allows for easy access via the Medellín Metro and other public transport routes, making it quick and safe for students to get there.
The Robledo Campus of the University of Antioquia is another one of the institution's important sites, designed especially for engineering courses and technical areas.
Located in the Robledo district, this campus features modern academic buildings, specialised laboratories, and workshops equipped with cutting-edge technology for students’ practical training.
Its environment is calmer than the central campus.
Even though it's not as big as University City, it has green spaces, rest areas, and cafeterias.
Its location also makes it easily accessible by public transport, with bus routes connecting to different parts of Medellín.
Some of the most convenient neighbourhoods to live near the Colombian institution are:
This area is one of the most popular ones amongst students due to its relatively close location, a good student environment and abundant services (cafés, restaurants, supermarkets). Also, it's well connected to public transportation. You can arrive at the Ciudadela Robledo in about 30 minutes and at the Ciudad Universitaria in even less time.
Robledo is an excellent option for those who study at Ciudadela Robledo. It’s a residential neighbourhood with a calm environment, more affordable rent prices than areas like Laureles, and a good selection of rooms and shared flats. In addition, it has supermarkets, shops, and cafeterias.
Belén is a spacious and well-connected neighbourhood that offers students a good quality of life at reasonable prices, close to the University of Antioquia. Even though it’s not close to the campus, it has an excellent bus and metroplús connection, which makes getting around easy and safe. It’s a residential area with a wide range of flats and rooms, as well as supermarkets, restaurants and gyms. It has a peaceful atmosphere, with parks and spaces for sports or relaxation.
The University of Antioquia doesn’t have a formal and comprehensive system of university residences of its own, unlike some universities in other countries. However, there are private residences (or homes adapted as residences) near the UdeA, offered by individuals or independent entities. They may offer private or shared rooms, with several services included in the price.
