Flats and spare rooms for students near the UNIPG

When choosing a neighbourhood to live in, consider your preferences, such as proximity to campus, services, and transportation. Some things to keep in mind are:

Where is the University of Perugia located?

This institution is divided into different “Polos” (campuses):

Polo Cittadino

This is the main campus of the institution, where the rectorate and central administration are located. As its name suggests, it is located in the city of Perugia, in central neighbourhoods. Here, classes are taught in the following departments:

  • Economics
  • Law
  • Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • Letters
  • Philosophy
  • Physics and Geology
  • Mathematics and Computer Science
  • Political Sciences
  • Chemistry, Biology and Biotechnology

Polo Pallotta

Located south of the city, this campus is just a few minutes walk or by public transport from the centre of Perugia. The following departments are located here:

  • Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences
  • Veterinary Medicine

Polo di Ingegneria

This campus is located west of the centre of the Italian city and is one of the largest campuses. It is well-connected to Perugia, both by bus and by tram (called "minimetro"). The following departments related to engineering are located on this campus, including Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Polo di Medicina

The campus with the most departments related to the Faculty of Medicine is located southwest of the centre of Perugia, opposite the Perugia Silvestrini train station.

Polo di Monteluce

This polo is located east of the city centre, in the Monteluce area and a few minutes from the liveliest area. Here you will find:

  • Department of Chemistry, Biology and Biotechnology
  • Language Centre (CLA - Centro Linguistico d’Ateneo)

Polo di Terni

As its name suggests, this campus is located in the city of Terni, which is about 80 kilometres south of Perugia. It is located east of the centre of Terni and has some courses of study from the following departments:

  • Economics
  • Physics and Geology
  • Engineering
  • Civil and Environmental Engineering
  • Medicine and Surgery
  • Philosophy, Social, Human and Training Sciences

Best neighbourhoods to live in near the UNIPG

Perugia is a relatively small city, and most of the neighbourhoods are within walking distance of the University of Perugia campuses. These are some of the neighbourhoods that you can consider living near the UNIPG:

Old Town of Perugia

It is the heart of Perugia, where most of the city's cultural attractions are located, as well as the most popular dining spots for students. Living in the old town means being within walking distance of the Polo Cittadino of UNIPG, as well as a few minutes by public transport from Polo di Monteluce, Polo Pallotta and Polo di Ingegneria.

Elce

This neighbourhood, located just north of downtown Perugia, is usually filled with students for several reasons. On the one hand, the largest complex of the Polo Cittadino is located here because Polo di Ingegneria is easily accessible. On the other hand, because it is a few minutes' walk from the centre and also has some affordable bars and restaurants for students.

Center of Terni

If you are going to Polo di Terni, living in that city is the best option to be close to that campus. It is indeed a quieter and smaller city than Perugia, but you can reach the latter in approximately 1.30 hours by train to explore it in your free time.

Student residences near the University of Perugia

The institution offers accommodation to international students in one of its university residences. However, you should keep in mind that you cannot choose which residence to go to, as it is assigned by the Adisu (Agenzia per il Diritto allo Studio Universitario dell’Umbria). Due to this, your accommodation may not be located near the Pole you will be studying in, so many students prefer to choose rooms in private shared flats themselves.

Erasmus in the University of Perugia

If you are an Erasmus student at the University of Perugia, here is some useful information that can help you:

  • Italian is the official language in Perugia, so it is a good idea to learn at least some basic Italian before you arrive. The University offers free Italian courses for Erasmus students, so we suggest you take advantage of them!
  • Public transport works very well in Perugia, and there is a discount for monthly bus passes for students. You can also use bicycles or scooters to get around the city, which is a common means of transport among young people.
