This Italian city has several attractions for young people, including places to visit and activities to do, both during the day and at night. Also, Salerno welcomes many local and Erasmus students every year, so there is a really fun atmosphere.
Surely you are wondering, how much does it cost to live in Salerno if you are a student? You have to know that this has a lot to do with the type of accommodation you choose since it usually represents most of the monthly expenses of young people. So that you can choose your ideal accommodation simply, below we will tell you all the details that you have to take into account when searching.
Are you looking for a cheap apartment for rent for students in Salerno? We tell you that here you will find both studio apartments and others with more rooms to share. The studio-type flats are called “Monolocal” and there are also “Bilocales” (small studio-type flats but with two rooms).
The price of a studio apartment usually goes from € 440 onwards. A flat to share with more rooms start at € 600 per month. The advantage of sharing an apartment is to be able to divide both the rental costs and the utility bills, which reduces the monthly budget per person considerably.
If your preferred alternative is to rent a room in an apartment shared with other students, we recommend that you start your search as soon as possible. The sooner you start looking, the more likely you are to find one that suits your needs, that is, one that includes all your favourite features and that has a good location and a good price.
The rooms in Salerno can be both individual and shared. Individual rooms have an average cost of € 300 per month and shared rooms € 250 per person. Most of them are furnished and have everything a student needs, such as bed, bedding, wardrobe, desk and chair. In the Erasmus Play search engine, you will be able to see all the characteristics of the different rooms, being able to choose the one that includes everything you need simply.
Due to the good connection to the university campuses, most young internationals choose the centre of Salerno and its surroundings to live. We inform you which are some of the best areas for you to choose your favourite:
This neighbourhood is one of the most chosen since the largest number of places of interest for students are concentrated here, such as bars, restaurants, cafes, squares, shops and places where events are held. From here there is a very fast connection with the University campuses.
This area is ideal if you want to have easy access to the port and the city's promenade, as well as to the centre and quick transport to the university.
The Torrione neighbourhood has beaches, restaurants, markets and historical sites to visit, such as La Carnale fortress. From here you will have easy access to the main train station of the city and the centre, which you will be able to reach in about 25 minutes on foot.
This university has several campuses and buildings in and around the city. One of the main ones is located north of the centre of Salerno, in the Fisciano area, about 10 minutes away by train or 25 by bus. On this campus, in addition to faculties such as Engineering or Literary Studies, you will find different facilities that you can enjoy as a student of the institution, such as a library, swimming pool and soccer fields. Another campus of the University is the one located in Baronissi, located a short distance south of Fisciano. Here is the Salernitana Medical School, which houses faculties such as Medicine, Surgery and Dentistry.
The University of Salerno offers its students several residences so that they can live close to the campus and its faculties. However, most of the places offered require a minimum rental of 10 months, which is not always possible for an Erasmus. As an alternative, we recommend that you consider rooms in shared flats, a type of accommodation in which you will also be able to live with other students and have more independence than in a residence hall.
