Where’s the University of Stuttgart located?

It has two main campuses: Vaihingen, a Technology and Engineering centre, and Stadtmitte, located in the centre of the city. Next, we’re going to see which campus each faculty is located on.

Stadtmitte Campus (City centre)

The Stadtmitte campus, or city centre campus is, as its name suggests, in the heart of Stuttgart, and contains the following faculties:

Best neighbourhoods to live in near University of Stuttgart

Once you know where the college you’re going to attend is located, we recommend some of the best neighbourhoods close to each campus, so you know where to start looking for your accommodation.

Stuttgart-Mitte

The centre of the city, known as Stuttgart-Mitte, is your best option if you want to be close to the Stadtmitte campus. Additionally, living here you’ll be surrounded by lively urban life, with access to many shops, restaurants, bars, and the city's nightlife options.

Stuttgart-Süd

To the south of the centre is another neighbourhood that’s popular among students due to its more affordable prices and good access to public transportation. It’s also very close to the Stadtmitte campus, but you can live on a more limited budget.

Vaihingen

This is the closest neighbourhood to Vaihingen campus. It offers a good mix of student accommodation, in a quiet area with good services and transport links.

Möhringen

It’s located east of Vaihingen, about 25 minutes by public transportation away from campus. Möhringen is a residential neighbourhood with a good offer of cultural activities.

Student residences near the University of Stuttgart

The residences for students of the University of Stuttgart are managed by the Studierendenwerk Stuttgart (SWS) and the Vereinigung Stuttgarter Studentenwohnheime (VSSW). As an exchange student, you can request a room, but you'll have to be quick if you don't want them to sell out. In any way, you can also opt for a private residence.

• To be accepted for an exchange you must be nominated by your home university. In addition, you must demonstrate that you have an intermediate level of German, B1 or higher, because most courses are taught in the local language.
• They offer some subjects taught in English, but they are very few and in the Master's programs, which you’ll only be able to take if you’re in the third or fourth year. In these cases, you must prove a B2 of the language.
• The International Office offers exchange students to participate in the Buddy Program. If you register, a local student will support and guide you during your stay, so that you can quickly integrate into university life in your new destination. A helping hand always comes in handy!
• Additionally, you’ll be able to join student associations, photography groups, theatre groups, an orchestra, and even find another partner to practise languages ​​with.
