The city revolves around the university environment that characterises it, so finding student apartments and rooms near the University isn’t very complicated. Even so, you must first know where the campus is located, to choose the most suitable neighbourhood.
The institution locates most of its facilities in the southern part of the city centre, and a little further away it has several of their residences and accommodations.
What is considered the main campus is the union of two areas corresponding to former universities that merged: the Oxford Road (formerly the Victoria University of Manchester campus) and the Sackville Street (formerly the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology – UMIST campus). Both areas are a very short distance from each other, so getting around the campus is very easy. Here you can find almost all its facilities and buildings, with the exception of some accommodations.
Further south, the university located areas intended for accommodation of its students, outside the main campus.
Another campus destined for university residences is the Fallowfield Campus, three kilometres from the main one. This also includes a sports centre.
The University is very well located in the heart of the city, so finding accommodation nearby or well connected by public transport is usually not difficult. In this section we give you some neighbourhood or area recommendations so you know where to start looking.
The most convenient area would be the centre of Manchester. Here you are gaining almost immediate proximity to campus, depending on the exact location of the accommodation, and you’ll also have entertainment and nightlife venues nearby.
About 15 minutes walk south of the facilities, it’s another of the most chosen neighbourhoods by students, thanks to its multicultural atmosphere and the variety of restaurants and bars that it offers. Here you’ll surely be able to find accommodation that has everything you are looking for.
Another neighbourhood that may interest you is the Northern Quarter, if you like street art and bohemian bars. It’s north of the centre and it houses some of the liveliest music show venues in the city. Another advantage is that you can find lower priced rooms.
If you prefer something calmer and more relaxed, then we recommend Castlefield, which is located about 25 minutes walk from the university. It’s a walkable area, full of green areas, water canals, bars and other recreational spaces.
As an international student, you can access any of the university residences offered by the university, if you meet certain requirements. However, the number of places is usually insufficient, so you can also opt for private residences. On our platform you can take a look at some of them!
