The University of Montenegro, also called Crne Gore University (UCG), is the most important public university in the country. In fact, it is the oldest higher education institution in Montenegro, having been founded in 1974.
Exchange students who choose the University have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Montenegrin culture, as well as explore the unique natural beauty of the region. You can't miss visiting the Bay of Kotor or the beautiful Cijevna Waterfalls!
In this section we tell you the location of the University campuses and the different convenient neighbourhoods that you can consider to live near each of them.
It has campuses in different cities of the country, the most important and those that host the largest number of international students being the following:
This is the main campus of the University. It is located in the area called “Univerzitetski Centar", which translates to University Campus, and is located west of the centre of Podgorica. It is here that most of the faculties of the institution are taught, so it is composed of a large number of buildings and various facilities.
This beautiful town is home to the Faculty of Maritime Studies of the institution. Its building is located facing the Bay of Kotor, in the Dobrota neighbourhood. It is located very close to the city centre.
These are some of the neighbourhoods preferred by students who are going to study at the institution:
This neighbourhood is where the University Center is located, which houses the main campus of the University of Montenegro. Because of this, it is one of the best neighbourhoods that you can consider to look for accommodations close to the institution. It has a wide variety of restaurants, bars, shops and nightlife options, so it tends to have a good student atmosphere despite not being the most central area.
Novi Grad is the neighbourhood that is located between Kruševac and the centre of Podgorica. This means that it is halfway between the University of Montenegro and the area with the greatest number of cultural sites to visit in the country's capital. Novi Grad also has a large number of restoration sites to enjoy, including restaurants, cafes and bars.
This neighbourhood of the city is located on one of the shores of the Bay of Kotor. It is where the University's Faculty of Maritime Studies is located, making it the closest neighbourhood to the university in this city. It offers stunning views of the mountains and the bay, and is perfect for outdoor activities. In addition, it has easy access to the centre of Kotor to enjoy the different leisure alternatives.
The University has some university halls of residence in Podgorica where you can apply for a place. These usually offer shared bedrooms between two students, so you will have to share all areas of the apartment it is part of. However, the price is usually very affordable, around €25 per month per person. In the capital of Montenegro you will also be able to access private student halls of residence that are located close to campus. Furthermore, in Kotor you will find the so-called “co-living”, which works in a similar way to residences. Their cost is usually a bit higher than that of university residences.
