The University of Adam Mickiewicz (Uniwersytet im. Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu - AMU) is the main academic institution in Poznań and one of the main Polish Universities. It was founded in 1919 and named after the Polish poet Adam Mickiewicz. Each year it welcomes 38,000 students, of which around 3,000 are international, creating a multicultural and diverse environment.

Located in the north of the city, it’s half an hour by tram from the city centre, in the Morasko district. It’s the centre for Teaching and Research in the fields of Exact, Natural, Human and Social Sciences.

It’s in the west of the city, 25 minutes from the historic centre, in the Ogrody neighbourhood. It’s also known as 'Szamarzewo', as it’s located on Szamarzewskiego Street.

The first thing to do is to find out which campus you are going to study at and then look for accommodation in the same area. In this section we’ll give you all the information about the best neighbourhoods near the University of Adam Mickiewicz.
It’s a very large area that stretches from the centre to the north of the city. It’s curious to note that 'Stare Miasto' translates to 'Old Town'. In the northern part of the centre you’ll find the Morasko Campus, while in the more central area is the Śródmiejski Campus. That’s why this neighbourhood is usually crowded with students. Also, the central train station is here, so you'll be able to get everywhere easily. As all city centres, there are plenty of plans and places to meet new people.
Within this small neighbourhood is the campus of the same name. In addition to the academic facilities, the botanical garden is a great attraction to visit or simply relax in the surrounding park. It’s very well connected to the city centre by tram, around 25 minutes away.
This district is located between Ogrody and the centre of Poznań. It’s the favourite area for nature lovers, because of its lakes and parks. In the southern part of the district there are many bars and restaurants frequented by students, so it's a great place to hang out with friends. From Jeżyce you can reach both the Śródmiejski Campus and the Ogrody Campus in just a few minutes.
The University of Adam Mickiewicz offers its students a wide range of its own student residences. They are located in different parts of the city and are well connected by public transport. There are also many private residences to choose from. The facilities tend to be more modern and with more amenities than the public ones.
The most popular neighbourhoods for students to live in are Stare Miasto, Ogrody, and Jeżyce. Both are close to the three campuses of the institution.
Poland is a cheap country compared to other European countries. A room in a public residence costs around €100 per month. Private ones’ prices are higher, around €150-200 per month, although this is usually due to a larger number of facilities which are more modern.
