Where is Tampere University of Applied Sciences located?

It has two campuses located in different parts of the Finnish city:

Campus in Kauppi

It’s the main campus of this institution, and is located in the neighbourhood of Kuntokatu of the district of Kauppi, east of the centre of Tampere. It has facilities such as a library, a sports centre, laboratories, simulation rooms, among others. This campus hosts a large number of Finnish and international students, so it has a very enriching multicultural community.

Mediapolis

This centre of the institution is located west of Tampere, in the area of Tohloppi. It can be easily reached by bus from the city, in approximately 25 minutes.

This campus is focused on production of media content and ICT, so it welcomes students who are going to pursue careers related to those fields.

Best neighbourhoods to live in near TAMK

The following are some of the most convenient areas to live in Tampere to be close to the institution:

Tammela

This is one of the best neighbourhoods you can consider to live near the institution’s campus in Kauppi, since it can be reached in less than ten minutes by tram or bus. Please note that it’s one of the liveliest neighbourhoods in the city, since it’s usually chosen by students from TAMK and Tampere University, which has a campus very close by. Thanks to this, the atmosphere in Tammela is usually young and dynamic.

Armonkallio

Armonkallio is located north of the city centre, and also has good public transport connection to the campus in Kauppi, which can be reached in approximately 15 minutes. It’s a more residential area than the previous one, but it has access to several green areas to enjoy, including parks and the coast. The cost of rent here is usually a little cheaper than in more central neighbourhoods.

Finlayson

If you want to live in the centre of Tampere and have a good connection to the campus of Mediapolis, we recommend you consider the neighbourhood of Finlayson. From here you can reach the campus in approximately 30 minutes by bus. It offers a large number of shops, entertainment venues and restaurants for students. In addition, it has good access to several green areas to enjoy the outdoors.

Student residences near the TAMK

The institution itself does not offer residence hall facilities, so that alternative is not available. However, you have the possibility of choosing between private and public student residences. The private ones offer both single and shared rooms, and in some cases studio apartments are provided. On the other hand, public student residences managed by Tampere Student Housing Foundation (TOAS) and Pirkan Opiskelija-asunnot (POAS) offer predominately studio apartments, which may result in a slightly higher rental cost.

• Sometimes when you arrive on exchange you realise that you need some items for the accommodation, or even clothing or some entertainment. The organisation for international students ESN FINT has a room called the Recycling Room, in which students who have left Tampere leave objects that newcomers can take advantage of for free. From cups, plates and other kitchen utensils, to warm clothes, books, puzzles and decorations, you're sure to find something you can grab and use! And, of course, at the end of your exchange you can leave what you don't want to take back home so that the next students can take advantage of it.
• You’ll be able to join the Friend Programme, in which local youth or families are connected with international students from the TAMK. It’s an ideal way to delve deeper into Finnish culture, getting to know its language, nature, events and other interesting traditions.
