Even though Utrecht is a small city, it is always a good idea to determine which of the university campuses you are going to so that you can find nearby accommodation in a convenient neighbourhood.
We tell you which are the different areas where classes are taught at this institution:
Several buildings that make up the City Centre Campus of the UU are located in the centre of Utrecht. All these buildings are in the Neude Janskerkhof in the Domplein area of the Binnenstad neighbourhood. Here you will find the faculties of:
It is known by both names, as the area used to be called De Uithof and later was renamed Utrecht Science Park. It is located in the district with the same name, to the east of Utrecht city centre. Here you will also find other universities' campuses, making it a very large area with thousands of students and university facilities, such as the Botanic Gardens, a University Hospital and sports fields. The majority of administrative services and faculties for the following areas are located at Campus Utrecht Science Park:
This campus is mainly composed of University College Utrecht, which is part of UU. Additionally, the University's School of Economics is also located here, as well as part of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance. It is situated on the former military base Kromhout Kazerne, to the east of Utrecht city centre.
Here are some of the neighbourhoods that are popular among young people for living near the institution:
This neighbourhood is ideal for students who will be going to UU's City Centre Campus. It is the liveliest area of Utrecht, with the most variety of leisure and nightlife venues. However, rental prices tend to be the highest in the city here. From Binnenstad, you can also reach Campus Utrecht Science Park and International Campus in about 15 minutes by bike.
This is one of the favourite neighbourhoods for students to live in, as it has a bohemian and fun atmosphere. Its name means "East", which means it is located east of the centre of Utrecht. The neighbourhood of Oost is very convenient for students who go to the Utrecht Science Park Campus and the International Campus, as they are located there and you can access them in just a few minutes on foot or by bike.
This neighbourhood has narrow streets, which give it an atmosphere reminiscent of a small village. From Wittevrouwen, you can reach all UU campuses in a short time by bike or public transport. It has some dining options and is close to green areas such as Griftpark and Voorveldse Polder.
Generally, universities in the Netherlands do not have their residences, although UU offers the possibility of accessing certain accommodations run by third parties. However, places are very limited, so it is often very difficult to get one. For this reason, most students looking for accommodation near the University of Utrecht usually rent rooms in shared apartments with other young people.
Remember these details when planning your stay at this institution:
What courses can you study at Utrecht University? |
---|
At this institution, you can study degree programmes in seven different faculties: Geosciences, Humanities, Medicine, Science, Veterinary Medicine, Social and Behavioural Sciences, and Law, Economics and Governance. |
What campuses does the UU have? |
Its faculties are spread across three different campuses: Campus City Centre, in the centre of Utrecht, the Utrecht Science Park Campus, in the Oost neighbourhood, and the International Campus, also in the Oost neighbourhood. |
Where do Utrecht University students live? |
Most young people choose to live in neighbourhoods such as Binnenstad (the centre of Utrecht) and Oost, as the UU campuses are located there. However, we suggest that you also consider neighbourhoods further away from these areas, as finding accommodation can be complicated, and it is advisable to expand your search options. |
How to get to the UU? |
If you find accommodation nearby, you will be able to easily reach your campus on foot. However, we encourage you to purchase a second-hand bike upon arriving in the city. This is the preferred mode of transportation for the Dutch in general and students, as it allows you to save on public transport and enjoy the city while travelling from one place to another. |
Which are the best Apps for Erasmus students at the UU? |
Download the Erasmus Play app! With it, you'll be able to meet people before you arrive in the city, connect with young people who are studying the same as you, and even find potential roommates. |
