It has six campuses in the city from which it takes its name and one in the city of Winchester. Where’s the University of Southampton located?

These are the seven campuses of the institution:

City Centre Campus

This campus is located in the heart of Southampton city and is surrounded by museums and student facilities. It’s very well connected to the rest of the city through public transport.

Highfield Campus

It’s the largest and oldest campus of the university, located very close to the main park, Southampton Common. It’s the academic base of the institution where social events are held and where the sports facilities are located.

Boldrewood Innovation Campus

It’s the most modern campus of the university. The engineering, maritime engineering, and business schools are located there. It’s also near the Southampton Common park.

Avenue Campus

The School of Humanities is located on this campus. It's just a minute away from Southampton Common, in the north of the city.

University Hospital Campus

The University Hospital Campus is located at the northwest of the city. The hospital is very well connected by train to the centre of Southampton and the campus of Highfield. That's where medical students have most of their classes.

Waterfront Campus

It’s located at the National Oceanographic Centre in Southampton. There’s the biology school, where classes in marine and earth sciences are taught.

Winchester Campus

This campus is in the neighbouring city of Winchester. In it you can study Art, Fashion and Design.

Best neighbourhoods to live in near the Southampton

Most students choose the north of the city to look for accommodation. It offers a wide variety of options and is very well connected to the rest of the city. Many of the University of Southampton's campuses are located there, near the park Southampton Common. The city centre is another very common option among students, you’ll have everything at your fingertips and the prices are not very high.

Downtown Southampton

In the city centre there’s a lively student atmosphere. It’s full of restaurants with affordable prices for all budgets. From here, public transportation takes you everywhere. In addition, there are parks and green areas around where you can practise sports, such as Andrews Park, the Houndwell Park, and the Palmerston Park.

Portswood

The area of Portswood is very popular among students. The main university residences are located there. It’s a quiet area that’s just a twenty-minute walk from the university. It has excellent communication with the rest of the city and many restaurants and shops.

Student residences near Southampton

The University of Southampton has seven public student residences, both in the downtown area and near the campuses. In the centre of the city are Archers Road and Mayflower. Near the campus area you can find City Gateway, Glen Eyre, Highfield Hall and Wessex Lane. All of them are less than 20 minutes walk away from campus.

As to private residences, you have many more options. Some of the best known are: Portswood House, Green Wood Court, Crescent Place and Richmond House. They are all located near the campuses but since they are private, their price is higher.

Exchange at University of Southampton

Some information that may be useful for your exchange at the institution:

• All classes are taught in English, so all students must demonstrate at least a B1 level of English. But, if at the time of registration you don't reach the level, don’t worry! The university makes English courses available to students, and by passing them you can obtain an approval to enter.
• It has a wide range of modern sports facilities for the use of staff and students. They also collaborate with the Active Nation network which gives access to off-campus gyms and swimming pools. The University Watersports Centre is very famous in the city of Southampton, and as a student you can practise many water sports such as sailing or windsurfing.
