Madrid is one of the preferred destinations for international students who travel to Spain. As the most populated city in the country, it houses several institutions, such as the Polytechnic University of Madrid, one of the most recognised and prestigious universities in Spain. Being such a large city, it is important to know where and how to look for accommodation near the UPM to choose the best apartment, residence, or room during your studies. Studying at the UPM is a great opportunity to get to know the city of Madrid, train at a highly reputable university, and start a career full of opportunities.

If you are looking to share a flat with other students near the UPM, you need to find out which campus you will be studying at, and this depends on your course of study and faculty. Keep in mind that, generally, the further away from the city centre, the more affordable the accommodation tends to be.
It is divided into four campuses, which are:
In the Ciudad Universitaria area of Madrid, located to the north of the Chamberí neighbourhood, there are several buildings belonging to the UPM. Here you will find the Technical Schools and Faculties of:
This campus is actually composed of several buildings located in the centre of the Spanish capital. The neighbourhoods where they are located are Ríos Rosas, Almagro, and Lavapiés. It houses the following Schools and Institutes:
Located near Boadilla del Monte and Montepríncipe, this campus is the furthest away from the centre of Madrid. Nevertheless, it has good public transport connections to the city centre. The following institutes and schools are located on this campus:
It is located southeast of the centre of Madrid, in the Vallecas area. In fact, it is also known as the Vallecas Polytechnic Complex. It houses the following faculties and schools:
These are some of the neighbourhoods that we recommend considering for living:
This neighbourhood is very close to the Ciudad Universitaria Campus and the Madrid Campus of the UPM. It is a very popular area among young people to live all year round for different reasons, although it usually has a high cost of living. Here there is a good offer of leisure activities (museums, theatres, bars, restaurants, and live music), green areas to enjoy, and good connections with the rest of the city.
This area is ideal for students who will be attending the Montegancedo Campus, as it has very good connections to it. Keep in mind that this municipality is on the outskirts of Madrid, so you will be a bit far from the leisure spots frequented by students. However, a positive aspect is that the cost of rent is usually more affordable than in the centre of the capital.
The Vallecas area is the most convenient for being close to the UPM Campus Sur, as it is located right there. In this area, you can consider the historic centre of Vallecas, Santa Eugenia or even Palomeras Sureste. From here, you can reach the centre of Madrid in half an hour or less by public transportation.
The UPM manages a university accommodation service in residences. It has two residences, one of which is located in the central Chamberí neighbourhood. This service has limited places, and they tend to run out quickly. But don't worry, there are a wide variety of private residences that allow any university student to stay and offer a wide variety of options, services, and rooms that adapt to the needs of the students.
