Where’s Goethe University Frankfurt located?

It has five campuses spread throughout the city, each specialised in different academic areas and with their own facilities.

Westend Campus

The Westend campus is GU's current main campus, located in the north-west of the city. It houses the degrees belonging to Social Sciences and Humanities, which include the buildings of:

Niederrad Campus

Located directly on the banks of the Main river, the Niederrad Campus is home to the Faculty of Medicine and the University Hospital. It’s also undergoing reconstruction and expansion, and offers a mix of modern and new buildings and charming old buildings.

Bockenheim Campus

The old main campus of Bockenheim is located on the eastern edge of the district of Bockenheim. At the moment it includes the degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics, but these are going to be moved and the campus is going to be used as a cultural campus.

Ginnheim Sports Campus

It’s the smallest campus of Goethe University. It’s located west of the centre of Frankfurt. Here they study Sports Sciences. It also welcomes the Institute of Sports Sciences and the University Sports Center, with a sports pavilion and several outdoor facilities.

Best neighbourhoods to live in near GU

Here are some of the most convenient neighbourhoods to live in according to each campus:

Westend neighbourhood

The Main Campus is located here, so it would be the perfect place for students. It’s one of the most prestigious neighbourhoods in Frankfurt due to its historic architecture, its strategic proximity to the financial centre of the city, and its good and quiet quality of life.

Bockenheim neighbourhood

This neighbourhood is popular with students because of its proximity to Westend Campus, to Bockenheim Campus, and to the city centre. It has a large number of bars, cafes and shops.

Riedberg neighbourhood

This new, modern area was developed specifically for the expansion of Goethe University, and includes both the facilities of the Riedberg Campus as well as student accommodation.

Niederrad neighbourhood

This is a residential and business neighbourhood, perfect if you need to be close to the Medicine campus. It has good transport links, but the area may be less lively than others.

Ginnheim neighbourhood

This one is right next to the sports campus. It’s a quiet residential area, with parks and green areas.

Nordweststadt neighbourhood

It’s also very close to Ginnheim. It has a modern atmosphere with shopping centres and recreational areas, and a mix of families and students.
